Brambly Hedge Interior

Chapter 3:

Brambly Hedge Interior

Recreating the interior of the famous Brambly Hedge was the part I felt most nervous about, as I wanted it to capture the same warmth, charm and tiny woodland magic that makes the stories so beloved.

I began with a collection of old boxes, carefully painting and transforming them into a little stove and sink for the kitchen. A tiny pottery bowl became the perfect wash basin, while a small stick served as the tap, giving it that rustic Brambly Hedge feel.

Throughout the rooms, I tied everything together with the same soft pink striped fabric, using it for the curtains as well as the four-poster bed to create a cosy, well- loved cottage atmosphere.

Some treasures were discovered in op shops — little pieces of furniture that looked as though they may have belonged in the mice home all along. In the nursery, I folded delicate scraps of fabric into miniature quilts and placed them on the shelving.

My auntie lovingly made a tiny quilt for the main bed, complete with matching pillows and little rugs for both the bedroom and kitchen. She also made a small quilt for the baby nursery.

The four-poster bed itself was lovingly handmade using a small foam mattress, four timber posts, soft material and lace curtains draped around it. It became one of my favourite pieces in the whole home.

In the kitchen, I added tiny baskets filled with handmade vegetables. I crafted little radishes using the same beads that I had used for the berries outside, along with crepe paper leaves, and made miniature carrots to sit beside them. Tiny pinecones gathered into a basket added another woodland touch, as though they had just been collected from the forest floor.

One of the sweetest additions came from my granddaughter, who created the tiny picture hangings for the walls. Using scrapbooking frames and stickers, she designed miniature artworks that made the house feel truly lived in and loved.

Altogether, each tiny detail helped bring the enchanting world of Brambly Hedge to life in the most whimsical way.
